2. Personal Information We Process
Flight Briefing does not require an account and we do not ask you to create a user profile.
Location information
With your permission, the App uses your device location to determine the geographic area for weather and NOTAM queries. Under the current product design, location coordinates are sent from your device to aviationweather.gov for the query and are not stored on our servers.
If you do not grant location permission, automatic location-based queries will not work. You may use any manual-location functionality available in the App.
Technical and analytics information
Where enabled, technical and analytics tools may process information such as IP address, device or app identifiers, operating-system information, session information, screens or features used, performance data and error information.
Support information
If you contact us for support, we process the information you provide, such as your name or email address and the contents of your enquiry.
3. How We Obtain Information and Whether It Is Required
Location information is obtained from your device only with the device permission you grant. Technical information may be collected automatically by the App or relevant service providers. Support information is supplied by you when you contact us.
Location permission is optional. Support information is voluntary, although we may need sufficient information to investigate your request. Analytics that depend on consent or an equivalent user choice will not be activated unless the required choice has been made.
Under POPIA, we process personal information only where permitted. Depending on the activity, this may include your consent; processing necessary to take steps at your request or perform an agreement with you; compliance with a legal obligation; protection of your legitimate interests; or pursuit of our or a third party’s legitimate interests where permitted by law.
4. Cookies, SDKs and Similar Technologies
We may use cookies, software development kits (SDKs) and similar technologies for essential service operation, security, support, performance monitoring and analytics. Where consent is required by applicable South African law for a particular processing activity, we will obtain it before that processing begins.
Google Analytics may be used for app analytics where enabled. Zoho Desk is used when you contact support.
5. Third Parties and Recipients
We do not sell personal information. Depending on the feature being used, information may be processed by or disclosed to:
| Provider | Purpose | Typical processing location |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure | Cloud and application infrastructure | Depends on the current Azure configuration and may involve processing outside South Africa |
| New Relic | Performance and error monitoring | May include processing outside South Africa |
| Google Analytics | Usage analytics, where enabled | May include processing outside South Africa |
| Zoho Desk | Customer support | May include processing outside South Africa |
| aviationweather.gov | Weather and NOTAM query service | United States |
Where a service provider acts as our operator under POPIA, we require it to process information with our knowledge or authorisation and to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security measures, including through a written agreement where required by section 21 of POPIA.
aviationweather.gov is an independent third-party service. When your device contacts it, it may receive your device IP address and query parameters. Its own terms and privacy practices apply to its processing.
We may also disclose information where required or authorised by law, to establish or defend legal rights, to prevent fraud or misuse, or in connection with a lawful corporate transaction.
6. Transfers Outside South Africa
Some providers process information outside South Africa. Where we transfer personal information to a recipient outside South Africa, we do so in accordance with section 72 of POPIA, including where the recipient is subject to a law, binding corporate rules or a binding agreement providing an adequate level of protection, where the data subject consents, or where another ground in section 72 applies.
7. Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was processed, or for a longer period where required or permitted by law.
We do not retain location coordinates on our servers under the current product design. Technical, analytics and support records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for operational, security, support or legal purposes. When information is no longer required, we delete, destroy or de-identify it as appropriate.
8. Your Rights Under POPIA
Subject to POPIA and PAIA, you may request confirmation of whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it; request correction, deletion or destruction where permitted; object to processing in circumstances provided by law; withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing; object to direct marketing; and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise a right, contact privacy@morzgroup.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
9. Direct Marketing
We do not use your location for direct marketing. If you separately provide contact details for marketing, any electronic direct marketing will be sent only in accordance with POPIA.
10. Information Security and Security Compromises
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against loss, damage and unauthorised access, acquisition, destruction or processing.
If there are reasonable grounds to believe that personal information under our control has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected data subjects as soon as reasonably possible, subject to any lawful delay required by law enforcement.
11. Children
POPIA generally restricts the processing of personal information of children. If we process a child’s personal information, we will do so only where permitted by POPIA, including where a competent person has provided consent or another statutory authorisation applies.
12. Third-Party Links and Services
The App or website may link to independent third-party services. We are responsible for our own processing of personal information, but not for the privacy practices of unrelated third parties.
13. PAIA and Complaints
Requests for access to records under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) may be submitted to our Information Officer at privacy@morzgroup.com.
